iMac running OS X v10.7.5. Can I upgrade to a later OS X?

I purchased this iMac 27" in 2010. It's running OS X v10.7.5 and I am having some problems of late with using different browsers such as Chrome and Firefox. Processor is 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. Memory 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3. Is it possible to upgrade to a later version of OS X? I know my Mac is 6 years old but it is still beautiful. I'm just finding it's not as fast as it used to be. Do I need to replace it?

Any comments and advice greatly appreciated.

All the 27" iMacs can run Sierra.

If you decide to upgrade, strongly suggest having a complete backup before you start (2 would be better using different backup utilities, to separate backup devices - Time Machine, SuperDuper, Carbon Copy Cloner, Disk Utility -> Restore)

However, if you are having issues already, it may something else on your system that is causing you problems. You might want to post the output from EtreCheck and let the forums look at it. It will list all the 3rd party additions and many times, 3rd party additions are the root of performance issues (not always, but a lot of times)
